The performance of Bruckner VIII in September 1984 was heralded in the Amsterdam press as a last chance to experience the great age and tradition of the German Bruckner conductors. Maestro Jochum was visibly aged, but no so his performance. A convincing testimony to the great German art of conducting it was for those present in 1984. Which it still is for the listeners to the CD release of this concert. Jochum admirers cannot be thankful enough to Tahra for releasing this precious material (before that, I had only a taped broadcast of this concert).
