1963 - 1974: Principal Guest Conductor in Amsterdam

Eugen Jochum in Ottobeuren, 1964

Ottobeuren, May 31 in 1964. The Abbey as an institution celebrates its 1200th birthday. Eugen Jochum conducts the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra in Bruckner V, the symphony to which he was especially attached.

The life - recording one of this performance was to become one of the the highlights of the Eugen Jochum discography and probably also one of the highlights in the Bruckner V discography in general. With such vigor is this music performed, with such a virtuosity it is played that it is really as if the Sheets of Bruckner's written Music really and suddenly become alife and exist on their own. A totally convincing performance.

Due to overwhelming interest, a concert performance was also given the day before the official celebration, on May 30, 1964.
Above a photograph of a rehearsal in Ottobeuren, below a photograph of the actual concert of May 31, 1964.

A registration of the concert of May 31 was also made by German Television, but I do not know if a copy of this Video recording still exists.
